This is what I don’t get about double standards
One of my Facebook friends just posted “Men like Chris Hemsworth just make all other guys seem lame in comparison.”. This post was rather well received by my peers, save for a couple vocal guys, who were quickly dismissed with the equivalent of “lol I’m just joking.”
Now, I have nothing against this girl. She’s super sweet and I have nothing but respect for her. But that post got me thinking…
How quickly and how thoroughly would I be verbally strung up and torn down if I posted “Women like Scarlett Johansson make all other girls seem lame in comparison.”?
Which brings me to my topic for the night (or, morning, I guess):
Why is it socially acceptable for girls to obsessively fangirl over attractive male celebrities, but if a guy fanboys obsesses over attractive female celebrities, he’s a sexist pig?
And to Jesse, specifically (since I now know you still read my stuff), why is it I feel like an ass whenever I get jealous of your celebrity crushes AND I feel like an ass when *I* have celebrity crushes? I don’t want to be jealous of your Hiddleston obsession, but at the same time, I don’t want to have an obsession of my own out of fear that you’ll get jealous or I’ll be known as a sexist pig. I literally block myself from becoming attached to female celebrities in the same way that you become attached to their male counterparts. Why?
